The annual ARRL Simulated Exercise Test (SET) will be held in Hawaii on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 0900 to 1200 hours HST. All amateur radio operators are invited to participate.

On Saturday, October 1, about 300 Boy Scouts in Hawaii’s Aloha Council will participate in the annual Camporee at Bellows Air Field on Oahu, Hawaii. Boy Scout patrols or teams will operate Radio Scouting station K2BSA/KH6 from 1830 to 2130 UTC / 0830-1130 Hawaii time / 1130-1430 Pacific / 1430-1730 Eastern. Scouts at camp will be able to carry on conversations on IRLP (node 3197) or on DMR (TAC 310 and local Hawaii talk groups) through nearby UHF repeaters, courtesy of Carter, KH6FV.

The EARC HI will offer a free Amateur Radio Technician Course from October 3rd to October 31st, 2016. This is the beginning license for the Amateur Radio. There are three license classes, Technician, General and Extra. Each license allows the Amateur radio operation to operate on more frequencies. The class will meet each Monday from 7 to 9 PM at the Mililani Cornerstone Fellowship Church at 95-1080 Ukuwai Street, Mililani, HI 96789. Registration is limited to the first 10 students. The Koolau Amateur Radio Club (KARC) meets on the second Saturday of each month at 9:30 Am in the Ho’omaluhia Botanical Gardens visitor center. The next meeting will be October 8th, 2016. The KARC meeting is open to everyone and its purpose is to further the exchange of information and cooperation between members, to promote radio knowledge, fraternalism and individual operating efficiency, and to so conduct club programs and activities as to advance the general interest and welfare of Amateur Radio in the community.

The Emergency Amateur Radio Club of Honolulu, (EARC HI), will hold their monthly meeting on October 18, 2016. The meeting will be held at the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 46, 891 Valkenburgh Street Honolulu, HI 96818 at 7 p.m. The EARC HI meeting is open to everyone and is held to educate Ham Radio Operators, family members, and the general public on Amateur Radio related topics. There will be a potluck dinner and then the annual election of board members.

The ARRL, via the EARC HI Club, will hold a licensing test session on October 8th, 2016 at 1 PM on board the USS Missouri. The test session will be in the ship’s Chapel, one deck up from the radio room. You can ask any of the tourist guides to lead you to the Chapel. The EARC Club holds a nightly net on the linked Oahu Repeaters every night except Sundays, Holidays and when the club meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. The nets will start at 7:30 PM and will last between 10 and 30 minutes.
The purpose of this net is to familiarize and to train radio amateurs in general net operations for public service and emergency net settings, and to check signal strength for various radios, antennas and locations.
