Just a short note to remind about the ARRL 2017 Simulated Emergency Test (SET) on Oct 21st.
Internet and cable TV are a buzz with stories about the importance of Amateur Radio emergency communications. We even made nationwide Fox News TV (see http://tinyurl.com/y93kfwyv)!
Amateur Radio was called on for communications support in TX, LA, FL, PR and Mexico. And as we go to press, CA fires can be added to the list. Quite a striking combination of events that is raising the public’s appreciation for our first responders, including support from Amateur Radio stations.
It can happen in Hawaii, and this moment should be a wakeup call for us. Let’s take the time to check out our equipment and procedures. The news makes it clear that the ability to deploy stations needs priority in our training. Operating from an EOC is of less importance if there are few deployed stations to communicate with.
If you can participate in the Oct 21st SET, please do so. For detailed information look at,
Make it an outing with friends; we are hoping for real-time Twitter and Facebook Live contributions of photos and video. Maybe there is a role as reporter for family members who know how to use Internet social media. 😊.
